Part time position based upon needs, not to exceed 20 hours per week.  Hours and days can vary from week to week.

 

Educational Requirements:

  1. Bachelor's Degree
  2. Teaching Certificate with ESL Certification perferred.

Instructional Strategies:

  1. Provide targeted English language development support to emergent bilingual students in listening, speaking, reading, and writing across academic content areas.
  2. Follow teacher lesson plans, campus instructional priorities, and established language development goals to provide supplemental instruction and academic support.
  3. Use appropriate instructional strategies, activities, materials, technology, and resources that reflect an understanding of the linguistic, academic, cultural, and developmental needs of secondary emergent bilingual students.
  4. Provide individualized and small-group instruction to strengthen students’ academic vocabulary, language structures, reading comprehension, writing skills, and oral language development.
  5. Monitor student progress and provide feedback to students and teachers regarding language development, academic engagement, and areas of continued need.

Student Growth and Development:

  1. Serve as a positive role model for students and support the school district’s mission and commitment to student success.
  2. Build positive, respectful relationships with emergent bilingual students while recognizing and valuing students’ linguistic and cultural backgrounds.
  3. Encourage students to develop confidence, independence, self-advocacy, and ownership of their academic and language development.
  4. Maintain confidentiality of all student records, language proficiency information, assessment results, and personal information.

Communication and Collaboration:

  1. Establish and maintain professional relationships and open communication with students, teachers, administrators, families, and other campus staff.
  2. Collaborate with content-area teachers to support emergent bilingual students’ access to grade-level instruction and academic expectations.
  3. Communicate student progress, strengths, and areas of need to appropriate staff members while maintaining student confidentiality.
  4. Participate in collaborative planning, student support meetings, and other campus activities as appropriate.

Other:

  1. Follow district, campus, and department policies, procedures, and regulations.
  2. Follow district safety protocols and emergency procedures.
  3. Perform other duties as assigned by the campus or district administration.
